Its home to the Samburu tribe of Kenya, a tribe known for their remote culture, pastoral and nomadic way of life. Much of the land is now protected and community development initiatives have extended to eco-friendly African lodges jointly run by the Samburu.  Samburu Intrepids Camp

Samburu Intrepids is a lush oasis on the banks of the great Uaso Nyiro River in Samburu Game Reserve. The tented luxury camp is a delight to be in – deliciously cooled by the river breeze and the forest. The camp sits on raised decks overlooking the brown river where the elephants sometimes make an appearance or the crocodiles come out to lounge by the river’s banks. In this arid zone where water is scarce and the land baked by the eternal sun, herds of elephants and the big cats roam the plains with the Samburu special – the Reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and the long necked antelope, the gerenuk easily seen despite its harsh climes.

Ashnil Samburu Camp,

Ashnil Samburu Camp sits in Buffalo Springs Game Reserve which takes its name from an oasis of crystal clear water at the western end of the reserve. It is separated from Samburu National Reserve by Ewaso Nyiro River and is less hilly and dense yet equally very attractive. There are a total number of 30 luxury tents; 18 doubles, 9 with twin beds and 3 with triple beds. Each of the exclusive comfortable deluxe tents provides a perfect view of the Ewaso Nyiro River and beautiful surrounding landscape. Every spacious tent consists of a dressing area, sitting area, luggage rack and en-suite facilities to provide a memorable stay close to nature.

 Sarova Shaba Lodge

Sarova Shaba Game Lodge is located in a natural oasis in the heart of the Shaba Game Reserve or “Born Free Country”. It is set along the bank of the Ewaso Nyiro River laid out around the natural springs that flow into the river. The Lodge has a virtual mini forest of indigenous trees, a fish pond and a large free form swimming pool. Sarova Shaba Game Lodge has a presidential suite, 4 executive suites, and 80 standard rooms, all with en suite bathrooms. The rooms are chalet style, on two storey thatched roof wooden structures.

Simba Lodge
Samburu Simba Lodge is overlooking the Buffalo springs and the Uaso Nyiro River. From your room you have a fantastic view over the stunning plains, where elephants are grazing. Nearby rare game ‘ reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa orynx and long-necked gerunuk can be seen.
It was designed such that it has unobstructed viewpoint to the activities at the river bank. You can see the river banks and the waterhole from either your room terraces, at the lodge or restaurant.
You can spend the mid day in the swimming pool, or at the lounge watching wildlife at a watering hole. Evenings after dinner at the restaurant, there is entertainment by the Samburu traditional dancers, relax at the lounge.

 Samburu Game Lodge

Samburu game Lodge is set in 10 acres of pristine riverine forest on the western bank of the Uaso Nyiro River within the Samburu National Reserve. This is true wilderness, and home to varieties of animals and birds rarely seen in other parts of the country. Here are to be found the Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, the reticulated giraffe and Blue Shanked Somali ostrich.
The sun baked landscape is breathtaking with surrounding mountains shimmering on the horizon as temperatures rise. To the west, the sheer sided slopes of majestic Ol Olokwe Mountain form a perfect back drop to any photograph.

 Sopa Lodge Samburu

Located inside the Samburu National Reserve in Northern Kenya, Samburu Sopa lodge is built atop high ground allowing panaromic views of the vastness of Samburu shrub land and the hills beyond.

The lodge is built to reflect the architectural heritage of the local communities whose sons and daughters make up the majority of the work force at the lodge.  Fifteen cottages, each with two bedrooms are built in an arch formation on either side of the public areas to surround the waterhole but leaving a wide gap to allow the animals free movement to the water.

 Larsen’s Camp

The ultimate safari camp in Kenya’s Samburu National Game Reserve, Larsens Camp has elegantly furnished tents with excellent cuisine, a bar and lounge, swimming pool, tree and river decks and numerous wildlife excursions within the reserve.

Sentrim Samburu Lodge is located in Samburu Game Reserve. The lodge is positioned on the north bank of the Ewaso Ngiro river, close to the western gate. Sentrim Samburu Camp offers you an opportunity to encounter the rare species of reticulated giraffe, long necked gerenuk antelope, somali ostrich, grevy zebra and the beisa oryx. Species including elephant, leopard and the famous big five can become a close.

Sentrim Samburu Camp has 20 luxurious and comfortable deluxe tents spread out along the shady banks of the Ewaso Nyiro river. The main guest area consists of the reception, lounge area, restaurant and bar. Gift shop and a bar lounge have a view of the river.

Desert Rose Lodge

Desert Rose is a unique eco friendly lodge located at 5,500 feet asl on the verdant cedar forest slopes of Mt Nyiru which towers majestically above the Elbarta plains, between Karisia Mountains and Lake Turkana in North Kenya.

It consists of five unique houses accommodating up to twelve people, two cottages with double beds, two twins and a family house.  Joy’s Camp

An elegant oasis in the spectacular arid landscapes of Samburu; Joy’s Camp is built on the site of Joy Adamson’s tented home in Shaba National Reserve. The camp overlooks a large natural spring where elephant and lion jostle for watering rights with herds of buffalo and the rare desert species of Beisa Oryx, reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra.

Only 10 guest tents, each 100sq m sumptuous tent is uniquely decorated with handmade glass and the vibrant fabrics of the local nomadic tribes creating a chic, sophisticated and stylish cam.

 Kitich Camp

Kitich Camp is a truly remote and private location in a stunning forest glade on the upper slopes of the Mathews At night, the atmosphere is magical, and the glade is lit for guests to observe the cautious trail of nocturnal visitors, including Melanistic (black-coated) leopard, elephant, bushbuck, and buffalo – all of which come to drink and hunt by the river.

With just six tents situated under a dense tree canopy, overlooking the stunning Ngeng River, this camp is a low-key classic.

By day, guests can explore forest trails and crystal clear mountain streams by foot. The local Samburu guides share their extensive knowledge of the abundant hardwood trees, cycads, orchids, birds and butterflies.

Saasab Camp

Sasaab is close to the Buffalo Springs National Reserves, It’s a place of rich natural diversity with an astounding number of animals from huge majestic elephant to lion, leopard and cheetah and the ‘Samburu Special Five’: the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk antelope and Somali ostrich.

Each of the nine Moroccan-styled rooms is over 100m² with an enormous open-air bathroom and private plunge pool. From the veranda, guests can take in the remarkable views across the Laikipia Plateau toward the jagged peak of Mount Kenya.
